June 2004 Class Circular
¡@
¡@
Hong Kong       3 June 2004

Dear SPCC73 Classmates,

1. Rejuvenate with Fei Lim

Your next spa aromatherapy, or antioxidant supplement, or natural seaweed cream for bringing back your youth again?

Not exactly.

But here¡¦s an easy 7-step programme to try out:

1. Mark your calendar for 11 June 2004 (Friday) evening.
2. Be at the Eatwell Shop in Causeway Bay (
map) from 6:00 pm onwards.
3. Meet and chat with fellow SPCC73 classmates.
4. Meet Fei Lim and listen to the Tales of Fei Lim.
5. Have a homely and hearty dinner.
6. Relax, rejuvenate, rejoice.
7. Feel young at heart again.

You¡¦ll recall who Fei Lim is if you remember who among our Class of 1973 used to play the violin on stage in the School Hall with a real flair in our SPCC days. Well, he¡¦s not making his living as a violinist these days. There is a long and interesting story which he may or may not tell you but you can certainly find out if you try to.

Officially known as William Chen Wai Lim (and now you remember, right?), Fei Lim would like to meet up our classmates in Hong Kong when he drops by in Hong Kong next week. He has probably not met most of us for over 30 years now, and he has also missed our 30th anniversary reunion in Australia at the end of last year. So let¡¦s help him make things up while we let ourselves relax, rejuvenate, rejoice ¡K and rediscover as well.

When: ¡@ 11 June 2004 (Friday) 6:00 pm till late; homely buffet meal around 7:30 pm (optional to join).

Where: ¡@ Eatwell Shop, Ground Floor, 102 Hing Fat Street, Causeway Bay (see map)

Transportation: ¡@ 5 minutes from Tin Hau MTR; parking at Citicorp Centre.

Cost: ¡@ Free relax, rejuvenate, rejoice, rediscover programme; tea and meals on shared basis (estimated $150/head).

Sign up now (spouses and kids welcome) by return email to Perry Yu at perry@pobox.com. Any questions, please call Perry at 9109 1750 or Winnie Luk at 9490 8533.

2. SPCC Alumni Association Twilight Drinks

From the SPCC Alumni Association:

We would like to remind you of our upcoming event, Twilight Drinks, to be held on Monday 28th June 2004 from 5:30 to 7:30pm at Sir Robert Kotewall Hall.  There will be a presentation on Primary One admissions by our prinicipals. Another highlight is a display of part of Ms B.M. Kotewall's collection of chinese paintings and calligraphy.
¡@
Do not miss out on this excellent opportunity to meet the prinicipals and to catch up with fellow alumni. Please complete and return the attached booking form to us as soon as possible or you can visit the "Upcoming Activities" of our website (http://www.spccaa.org) for details and to download the booking form.

3. SPCC Summer Concert

More from the SPCC Alumni Association:
¡@
Please find the attached information and order form for the St. Paul's Co-educational College's Summer Concert to be held on 10th July (Saturday) at 2:45 p.m.
¡@
If you are interested, please complete the form and send it with your cheque to St. Paul's Co-educational College Alumni Association at 33 MacDonnell Road, Hong Kong on or before 9 June, 2004.
¡@
Your cheque should be drawn in favour of "St. Paul's Co-educational College".  Tickets will be sold on a first come first serve basis. In order to secure better seat(s), we suggest that you register well before 9 June, 2004.
¡@
For inquiry, please do not hesitate to call our Miss Connie Chan at 2877-2885.
¡@

It's going to be another sizzling summer in Hong Kong as I write. Let's wish everyone a healthy and happy season wherever you are, and hope to meet up with many of us soon again.

Thanks,

Perry Yu

March 2004 Class Circular
¡@
¡@
Hong Kong       14 March 2004

Dear SPCC73 Classmates,

1. 30th Reunion

With the passing of 2003, we have formally concluded our
30th anniversary celebrations. Thanks to all of our classmates who had organized, participated, and supported our reunion activities - in many cases just a best wish message already gave the best support - and helped make our 30th anniversary in 2003 a truly global and memorable reunion celebration.

We know Sydney had caught on with their 30th Reunion in Australia last December, but that wasn't quite the last gathering of the year.

A number of classmates and family members had returned to Hong Kong for the holidays from the US and Japan. They came to meet many of us in Hong Kong at a Boxing Day Party held in Causeway Bay on 26 December 2003. It was holiday season and we also met many of our second generation members who came home from abroad, or who did not have to study for exams, and so obviously had a great time.

On 10 January 2004, many of us gathered again in the same Causeway Bay eating place for an Eatwell and Be Well get-together with health talks by our own classmates. Notwithstanding the health warnings and alerts, we were overjoyed in having yummy food and especially in seeing many rare faces who showed up for the first time in years.

2. A Roadmap for SPCC

Principal Poon Chun Kau at SPCC is due to retire soon. He drafted a Roadmap for SPCC document and is sending it to all SPCC students, teachers, as well as all alumni through the SPCC Alumni Association (SPCCAA). The SPCCAA has invited all alumni to meet Principal Poon for a talk and discussion on his proposed directions and plans for SPCC.

This will be held at 6:00-7:30 pm on 31 March 2004 (Wednesday) at the School Hall. If you are interested in attending to catch up on the continuing transformation of SPCC in particular, and that of education in Hong Kong in general, please respond to the invitation from the SPCCAA.

Our Class of 1973 will also arrange to have dinner together afterwards, depending on how many will show up and time and interest. So mark your calendar for the rest of the evening as well.

For your reference, Principal Poon's Roadmap for SPCC document is available for viewing or download here:  Poon_on_SPCC.pdf

3. Virus Alert

...

Spring time is notorious for many computer virus outbreaks, besides the typical human flu and the atypical but dreadly variants.

Wishing you all have a safe and healthy year ahead,

Perry Yu

5. Peak Walk - Aberdeen Hike

Date: 23 January 1994 (Sunday)

Time:
Peak Walk: 9 am - 10 am
Aberdeen Hike: 10 am - 12:30 pm.

Place:
Both walk and hike will meet at Post Box outside the Peak
Restaurant (opposite the Peak Tram Station).

What to do:
The early birds will assemble at 9:00 am at the Peak. Will
warm up for the hike by taking a walk around the Peak along
Lugard and Harlech Roads (will take 45 min to an hour).

Return to outside the Peak Restaurant to meet any late risers
arriving at 10 am. Descend along Pokfulam Reservoir Road to
Pokfulam and then go to Aberdeen to search for the authentic
fish ball rice noodles.

May take some hiking paths along Pokfulam Reservoir Road to go
to Aberdeen directly, depending on whether our leg muscles can
still sustain and if we find ourselves still as adventurous as
20 years ago.

Who:	For all those of us who want to give our pair of legs a
try, to catch some fresh air on a Sunday morning, and to have
some real good chat as we walk and hike. Spouses and older
kids also welcome.

Cost:
Bring your own snacks and drinking water for the hike.
Bring $ for transport and lunch.

RSVP:	Frank Wu

Deadline: 20 January 1994

(A small group of us - Au Ka Lam, Lau Ping Hong, Anthony Tong with wife Mariko, Frank Wu and Perry Yu - were able to get up early and took up the challenge. The warm-up Peak Walk was a breeze and the descent from the Peak to Aberdeen was certainly no big deal for all of us seasoned hikers ! We enjoyed chatting along the way but probably longed for the food at Aberdeen more than anything else. ;-) Thank you, Frank.)

P.S. Upcoming activities suggested by fellow classmates
include a real full-day hiking trip in the N.T. and a visit to
the beautiful campus of the Hong Kong University of Science and
Technology. Wait for announcements in future mailings. Please
come forward with suggestions of other activities and by all
means take charge for the coordination at the same time. Let's
all make this reunion year a particularly memorable one for all
of us. Thanks.

Pre-1993 Reunions
¡@
We have to rely on our recollections for the chronicle. So accuracy may be sacrificed. Welcome any fact checks and errata:

December 1992 Annual Dinner
(Under memory reconstruction.)

December 1990 Annual Dinner
(Under memory reconstruction.)

Summer 1988 15th Anniversary Reunion
(Benny Chen was host to this anniversary gathering at Estoril Court followed by a walk to SPCC and meeting with the Principal Ms Lam Ngar Sheung and other teachers. Seems like ages already. I remember seeing a picture in the Alumni Association newsletter, but simply can't recall who were there any more. Anyone still has a copy of that picture? )
