My Favorite Disneys . . . |
|
My first Disney video was The Little Mermaid, a present from my cousin Mingmei who lives in Northfield, Minnesota, USA. They don't have mermaids in Minnesota. Far too cold. But Mingmei likes Ariel, the Little Mermaid. And when I was just born, Mingmei thought of Ariel as a name I should take. There were other names like Heather, Emily, Michelle which Mingmei had suggested. But none striked my parents as refreshing and special as Ariel. (At least they did not allow people to use the name Ariel for The Little Mermaid's merchandise.) This is the little se..cr..et on how I got my name.
When I was a young baby, my parents used to wave my legs tightly wrapped in the bath towel in front of the mirror and say, "See the Little Mermaid!", and my little face would beam. Ariel the King Baby likes Ariel the Little Mermaid, Flounder the Fish, Sebastian the Crab, and the song Under the Sea. Did you see the movie? Do you like Ariel? If you do, here's another place to see more Little Mermaid pictures. And here's the movie script.
The next Disney movie I came to see is Fantasia. An old Disney, even older than my Dad! (It's made back in 1940.) Mickey Mouse was the Sorceror's Apprentice, and had a great dream. He became a master of all great magic. One trick he learned, I'm sure, was to make himself cheerful and young forever. That's why Mickey is as youthful today as he was in the old days. I love the galloping unicorns, flying fairies, dancing hippos and mushrooms - you don't see them easily in movies today anymore. So, go get a video and see them. You'd love them too!
I was looking forward to seeing Disney's new feature Pocahontas coming out last summer. I know the plot but I won't give it away here. Good ol' Goofy sent me this picture showing he and Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck all having a sneak preview at Disneyland. Oh...What an envy!...and finally I got my chance to a pre-release screening on Father's Day, 18 June 1995. Certainly a commemorable day.
Go to my
Pocahontas Special page to see why.

When I'm bored, I'll look up already released Disney animated features and see which ones I haven't seen, or, to be more exciting, check on these new and upcoming Disney features. I also drop by Disney's own home page with lots of sights and sounds and even contests. It's Disney official publicity; so you won't find any rousing fan opinions and views.
An upcoming new Disney feature is the story of Mulan, a courageous woman warrior who fought invading tribes from Northern China in the 5th century. Even though Disney won't release the new movie until at least after 1997, I have started Mulan's home page where you can take a look at the original story and the Chinese poem on which the movie will be based. I also host the Legend of Mulan FAQ and will set up the Mulan Fan Club home page.
