Meaning of Feast of Booth

Feast of Booth is from 15th to 22nd of 7th month of the year, which is the week after full moon.

It is a time to rest after half a year's work. Thus we should rest and eat a little more nutritious food. Also not to forget the needy and afflicted. At least, give them and us a joyous time for a week.

We do not know why we are here in this world. And after some years, we will not be in this world.

If we are obedient to the teachings of LORD, and of Jesus, when we depart, we will return to our Creator. And after the final judgement day, where all brothers and sisters will be resurrected to a New Heaven and New Earth, we will live forever with them, and with LORD - who is TRUTH.

Thus our life here is like "camping". We stay for a while, and very soon, we will have to pack up and go.

Therefore, we should have proper attitude towards the material belongings, the money we have, and be generous and gracious to the poor and needy. See, how many good brothers and sisters have donated money to social needs.

Feast of Booth is a year by year reminder of our temporal stay.

I think it is also a time for our kids to learn "survival" skills ! They learn how to set up booth/camp, how to fetch water, how to make fire and cook in the wild, how to serve the guests - the poor and needy. They may learn from the more experienced too ! They may make new friends, both of their age as well as older than they, as well as reinforcing their relations with their parents. How good is it to have brothers and sisters, who love LORD, and who love one another, to be together, though only 1 week in a year. It is a great respite in this world full of pressures.

LORD taught us to take "fruit of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and boughs of leafy trees, and willows of the brook" [Lev 23:40]. My understanding (which may be wrong) is that these may kill germs in the air, and prevent infectious disease when so crowded a people are gathered together.
