Underwater in Hong Kong Anemone shrimp Coral in Hong Kong

What, you can really go diving in Hong Kong?

If you're new to Hong Kong you may be looking around yourself at the polluted harbour, the container ports, reclamation works and busy shipping lanes thinking "Diving in HK? Surely not?!"

Don't forget though, that Hong Kong is full of country parks - including marine parks - with untouched hills, shady woodlands, golden sandy beaches and even some beautiful coral reefs. Get yourself out of Central for a day to escape to the cleaner and greener parts of Hong Kong's New Territories and you will discover that Hong Kong can offer many exciting surprises.

But what can you see in Hong Kong?

Hong Kong waters are in the South China Sea, a body of water bordered by Vietnam, the Philippines and Malaysia so theoretically all the same sea life and coral is here. Look through the logbook of any HKUC diver and you'll see that he or she has regularly spotted octopus, anemonefish, crab, scorpionfish, lionfish, cuttlefish, yellowtail jacks, barracuda, moray eels, angelfish, trumpetfish, pufferfish, coral trout, grouper and a variety of beautiful nudibranchs. To give you a taste of what you might be lucky enough to see - all the photos on this page were taken in Hong Kong by our members on our recent dive trips.
